What is Stoicism

For those of you that are new to Stoicism, I’ll try and make an introduction. Stoicism is an ancient philosophy, believed to be founded around 300BC by Zeno of Citium. I will not go into much detail here–others have done a good job of that already. My introduction to Stoicism was The Little Book of Stoicism by Jonas Salzgeber, and I can thoroughly recommend you read it.

Some of the best-known Stoics include Marcus Aurelius, Seneca (the younger), and Epictetus. Most ideas on this website come from them.

I like to think of Stoicism as a set of tools that help me be a better person. I try to practice it in my everyday life and I find that Stoic ideas never fail to guide me in the right direction.
